to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,

Jesus Christ is Risen He is risen indeed, alleluia.
There is no doubt that I love this time of year. Spring is a gardener’s paradise but also from a church point of view it is the main festival of the year, with churches looking so beautiful as we celebrate the basis of our faith.
For me it is also a time of fond memories looking back on Good Friday Workshops in former parishes with over 150 children attending, Easter Sunday services at Fakenham with not only the choir and the organ and a large congregation, but also trumpeters from the local school heralding the clergy and choir procession as we shouted - Jesus Christ is Risen He is risen indeed, alleluia. But also, after a mountain of Holy Week and Easter services, sleeping over night with our church youth when I was in Canterbury Diocese and walking all the way to Canterbury Cathedral for the Youth Easter Monday Pilgrimage. Cooking breakfast for over 50 children and sleeping on a church hall floor trying to get some sleep.
Happy days! Probably days I shall never see again but hopefully we can look forward to Easter egg hunts in the garden with grandchildren and telling them the wonderful story of Easter.
During the lockdowns and pandemic we have been bombarded with science and it is science and our amazing British scientists, along with others around the world, who found the answer to overcoming this dreadful virus. However, all the science in the world cannot explain how Christ, having been crucified, could come back from the dead. He died in the sight of so many people, including a few disciples and women followers, as well as soldiers and onlookers, and was certified dead. With the help of Joseph of Arimathea He was buried according to Jewish law before sunset on the day of death, and sealed in a tomb and guarded.
Nothing would have been done to the body of Jesus except that he was wrapped in linen cloth and the tomb was sealed with a large stone. Saturday was the Sabbath and so everything had to wait.
Very early on the Sunday morning we have an extraordinary series of events which are told in the four gospels. In St Mark we read of three devoted women followers of Christ coming to anoint the dead body of Jesus. Not the easiest task, but sadly we see this happening in many parts of the Middle East, as well as Myanmar (Burma), today after loved ones are shot or bombed. Often this difficult and personal task is done by a nurse or close family members. Jesus’ women followers would have been honoured to do this task, but also a little worried about moving the stone in front of the tomb as well as the guards.
To remember this time, many churches have sunrise services. I used to get up at about 5.30am on Easter Day in Fakenham and then a light a fire front of the church and light a large paschal candle from it and enter the totally dark church announcing that Christ was Risen. Then every candle in the church was lit as we sang the Hymn- Jesus Christ is Risen Today. We would have the service followed by breakfast before all the Easter Services usually, including afternoon baptisms, began. It was a busy day.
Today Christians all over the world will meet to greet the sunrise to exclaim the wonderful news that Jesus is risen.
With the sad events of this year, with so many families suffering tragic losses, we need the message of Easter more than at any time.
Gradually, after the shock of finding the tomb empty, except for a few linen wrappings, the women, and the key disciples, gradually realized that Jesus was risen.
This is the story of Easter celebrated in the millions of Easter eggs bought for this day. The empty Easter egg and the empty tomb are a symbol of new life.
The church, our country, and the world are shattered by the event of this year. But with God’s help we will survive, and not only survive, but will grow.
The light of Christ has not been extinguished but still glows and it will shine even brighter in coming years.
We have a massive work to do, but we begin on this day by the acclamation.
Jesus Christ is Risen He is risen indeed alleluia.
Go home with the knowledge that with this season of spring the world is regenerating and with our Easter faith and hard work, the church will regenerate itself as well.
With every Blessing

Intercessions
In joy and hope, let us pray to the Father:
That our risen Saviour may fill us, our families, friends and all those who live in this Benefice with the joy of his glorious and life-giving resurrection. We thank you Lord for the opportunity to return to worship in our churches today and we pray for all of our fellow Christians in this area of Breckland, worshipping both live and on-line today.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer.
That isolated and persecuted churches may find fresh strength in the good news of Easter. Lord, we stand alongside and pray to you for our Christian brothers and sisters throughout the world who are being tortured for their faith in you, today. We pray for your justice and an end to suffering.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer. That God may grant us humility to be subject to one another in Christian love. Lord, we pray for all the homes in this area where there is separation and strife. We ask for your uniting love to be within the families and across the generations.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer That he may provide for those who lack food, work or shelter. We pray, Lord, at this time for those whose lives have been changed by the Corona virus, that adequate provision will be made available for all. We pray for the Prime Minister and members of parliament in their decision-making as we move out of lockdown.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer That by his power, war and famine may cease through all the world. We pray, Lord, for the people of Myanmar and all other trouble spots in the world; for all soldiers and those providing protection at a cost to their personal safety.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer That he may reveal the light of his presence to the sick, the weak and the dying, to comfort and strengthen them ………
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer. That according to his promises, all who have died in the faith of the resurrection may be raised on the last day. We remember our own family and friends and also pray for Rita Miller of Caston who died this past week.
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer
That he may send the fire of the Holy Spirit upon his people, so that we may bear Faithful witness to his resurrection,
We pray to the Father, Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayerHeavenly Father, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant that, as his death has recalled us to life, so his continual presence in us may raise us to eternal joy: through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
The PeaceThe risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said
Peace be with you!
Then were they glad when they saw the Lord.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with youThe Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.Final PrayerGod of Life,
who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son
to the death of the cross,
and by his glorious resurrection
have delivered us from the power of our enemy:
grant us so to die daily to sin,
that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his risen life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
AmenThe Blessing and DismissalGod the Father, by whose glory Christ was raised from the dead, strengthen you to walk with him in his risen life; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always, Amen
